Lookatbowen now hosted on Linux.

Lookatbowen is now hosted on a linux box Distro UBUNTU 5.1 – I have also successfully installed XAMPP 1.5.0 and it is all working perfectly, as you can see. Ubuntu is pretty damm awesome! I never realized Linux was so good up until now. This particular package has everything and it took just under 20 minutes to install, which beats installing Windows XP by a mile.

However, it did take a few hours to configure Apache2.0 and PHP5.1.0 and to make everything secure. I’ve also managed to Embedded Gallery 2 into WordPress 1.5.2. and have migrated everything from Windows XP.

I still have to get my head around where everything is located, or installed, but the file system and command line is pretty cool. 🙂 – I can’t quite figure out how to create executables, if anyone can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated. I am trying to install FFMPEG and IMAGEMAGICK.

The last thing I want to do is link Google Maps to my Gallery, which I’ve seen on some sites. But that will be another time.

So it’s all good. I can’t believe how easy it was. (Windows to Linux). Highly recommended…

Pete!, Your web site is back up and also on the new server. It’s about time you updated it. 😉
Stuffonmydesk.com is also on the new server, so no change there.

Canon Pixma MP760

Our trusty Epson Stylus CX5200 came to an abrupt end the other day (so much for trusty). For some reason or other it didn’t want to print colour anymore, even after replacing the bloody expensive ink cartridges. The search for a new all-in-one printer was quick and decisive as I knew exactly what I wanted. The new Canon Pixma MP760.

Canon Pixma MP760

Ebuyer are selling them for a bargain price of £135, which is by far the cheapest according to Dealtime.

The printer has a wealth of features. Too many to name here, but here are a few I have noticed. You can scan film negatives and slides to your PC or use the film direct function to print them on the spot with no PC required, it’s a colour or black & white copier, it’s has a high scan resolution of 2400 x 4800 dpi optical and 48-bit colour depth, it has two trays, which allows different paper to be used, it has a built in card reader to read all types of memory cards, if you have a Canon digital camera like I do, you can hook up the camera directly to the printer and print photos on the fly, the Canon MP760 has a built in 2.5 inch colour LCD screen, so you can view the photos or scans or 35mm film or slides directly, you can also edit and crop and spin the photos automatically, you can print 25ppm mono & 17ppm colour. The printers ink cartridges are also way cheaper (£8 a cartridge), than the Epson or the HP. So there you have it. Just some of the features of this wonderful printer.

If you want to read a review of the printer, there is a good review over at Steve’s Digicams. He covers everything you might want to know about this little beauty.

I would highly recommed this printer and for the price you cannot go wrong.

Red is what I am seeing after paying £170 for my car service. But honestly, the colour red is an amazing colour. Without red our lives would be pretty blue. So to honour this wonderful colour, we are making the 24th of November 2005 RED Day, and to mark the occassion, I have come up with some interesting facts about the colour RED .

If there was no red, then the following would be a little strange:

* Would you listen to magenta hot chilli peppers?
* Would you eat Blue Lobster from La Tania?
* Would you eat Green meat from a cow?
* Would you drink Purple Bull?
* A crime story with black herrings would be confusing.
* Greenhat would not be a successful linux package.
* Do you think the White Cross would have helped billions of people with their charities?
* Simply Grey’s music would have been aimed at the old folks.
* Would you want to watch the Yellow Arrows perform amazing death defying tricks in the sky?
* Amsterdam wouldn’t be a popular city with stag parties if it was known as the light blue District.

red mist, red sea, red alert, red cross, red arrows, The reds, simply red, red hot, red wine, red perfume, blood red, red with embarrassment, red communist China, In the red, red is cupid, red is the devil, red is the hotest of the warm colours, red is power, hence the red tie worn by CEO’s, Directors, Presidents and the Prime minister, red carpet treatment, red is the colour of hapiness, and in some countries prosperity, red is the colour of mourning in South Africa, flashing red lights denote danger or emergency, stop signs and stop lights are red to get the drivers’ attention and alert them to the dangers of the intersection, red is often the color worn by brides in the East, In Russia the Bolsheviks used a red flag when they overthrew the Tsar, Many national flags use red, The red ruby is the traditional Fortieth Wedding Anniversary gift, A little bit of red goes a long way, red is a Christmas colour, red heart, the use of red in familiar phrases can help a designer see how their colour of choice might be perceived by others, red letter day, red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning; red sky at night, sailor’s delight – pay attention to good and bad warning signs, paint the town red.

Let us know if you have any more. We will gladly put them on the site for all to see.

Ha Ha!!!! – I got some more: Rudolph the red Nosed Reindeer, red October, The Shawshank redemption, red shoes diaries, red nose day, red telephone boxes, red post box,

Car Services – What a ripoff?

What a morning it has been so far? It took us almost 2 hours to drive into work because it there was a lot of FOG. This is Great Britain, where it rains, snows and gets foggy and where all means of transport comes to a grinding halt because of the weather. Doh! Suffice to say, we didn’t see an accident, or silly driving, so what was holding up the traffic so badily? Anyway, I dropped Jo off at work and headed up to Sidcup Auto Centre to take my car in for it’s 1st service. They told me three weeks ago on the phone that it would be an hour. So I had basically planned my morning around that hour. When I said I would wait around, the lady says "Nah!, there is no point, the service will take at least 4 hours", which when I queried it, the lady said, "that is how long it takes"….. Just Grrrreat. And oh by the way, it’s going to cost in the region of £200. – Are these guys on the herb or what?

Skoda Fabia is the best!

Skoda Fabia Vrs

@â„¢ was telling me about a very interesting article on Channel Five’s Fifth Gear web site. Our Skoda Fabia has been given five stars beating almost all (except for the Honda Jazz & Mini Mini). What does that say about the other cars?

The Skoda Fabia is based on the same platform as the new VW Polo, so handling and comfort are first-class. It’s refined, value for money and backed up by a top warranty.

And to all those Skodaphobes who sneer and joke at the badge, well guess who is laughing at you now?

Skoda Fabia – 5 stars
Honda Jazz – 5 stars
Mini Mini – 5 stars

Citroen C3 – 4 stars
Fiat Punto – 4 stars
Ford Fiesta – 4 stars
Hyundai Getz – 4 stars
Mazda 2 – 4 stars
Nissan Micra – 4 stars
Seat Ibiza – 4 stars

Volkswagen Polo – 4 stars

I won’t even bother with the 3 star or less cars. (Vauxhall Corsa, Renault Clio, Peugeot 206).

And finally, in the sixth months that we have had our Skoda, the price of the car has actually increased from £11500 to £12500. 😀

Wales 16-33 South Africa

Bryan Habana Scores

England lost to New Zealand

The Springboks scored four tries to one in a comfortable win in Cardiff. (Despite Percy playing dirty).

  • Wales: (6) 16
  • Try: Williams
    Con: S Jones
    Pens: S Jones (3)

  • South Africa: (11) 33
  • Tries: Habana (2), Jantjes, Rossouw
    Cons: Bosman (2)
    Pens: Montgomery (3)

New Zealand stayed on course for a ‘grand slam’ over the home unions by holding off an England fightback in a pulsating finale at Twickenham. They beat England 23-19.

The Springboks are the only team to have beaten the All Blacks this year.

It’s Friday, so can YOU guess the Celebrity?

    Who am I

Can you guess who this famous celebrity is? As you can see she is very well endowed. 😀

Um, I was doing some very important research over at Virtual Bartender, and they have this fantastic little X-Ray glasses test. You must give it a try, preferably at home in the comfort of your study chair (I’ve warned you).

Hint: move your mouse over the objects. Keep doing it, as the object reveal some amazing result. 🙂
