I downloaded Windows Vista RC1 (beta) last week, and decided to install it over the weekend. The installation went "surprisingly" well with no hicups. The operating system found all the correct driver and everything works. Well almost everything. My McAfee Anti-Virus didn’t want to work. It says it’s "not compatible". Great!, I just hope McAfee realize this in their next update. Below is a screen shot of my desktop. It really looks good. I like the widget bar on the side, especially since you can have the latest RSS news feeds and a slide show of photos. It even picked up my village where I stay and shows the weather.
I have already hooked up the media centre to my Xbox 360, as it’s got full media extender functionality built in and I can say it works really well. My current media extender does not work correctly with the Xbox 360 and I have to load 3rd party software to transcode the video files to the Xbox 360. Vista does it for you, which is quite impressive. One thing I have noticed is that Vista is memory hungry and having 512MB of RAM is ok, it works, but it’s a bit sluggish. My test machine has 512MB. 1GB would be more ideal, and if you’ve got more than that, then you will not have a problem. So it’s upgrade time (shhhhh don’t tell Mrs. B).
Talking XBOX 360, we have been playing Table Tennis. This game is very addictive. I made the biggest mistake and showed my wife the game, thinking she would take one look at it, and think "not her thing". Another mistake was to tell her that she would be crap at it, because it has a lot of buttons. We played the first game, and she was totally useless, and I thought (ha!), here is a game I could win at. Then she did the tutorial and after that I never won another game. (frustration).
The moral of the story: Don’t show your partner the game in the first place, that way you’ll never know how crap you really are.
Today we will witness Michael Schumacher’s last formula one race. He is by far the best formula one driver ever to grace the track (that’s my opinion, and if I find a negative comment left after today on this story you will be banned forever (ha! ha!)). Schumacher currently holds every record in Formula One, including those for most drivers’ championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions, and most races won in a single season.
Alonso is the only person who has skill to match Schumacher, and has even demostrated a nasty streak when things don’t go according to plan. So to the last race we go. It’s possible that Michael can win the race from his 10th position on the grid, although I think it would require Alonso to make a mistake or for someone else to crash into him. Unlikely! – I am sure if Schummie were to win, the media would go nuts and call foul because that is what they do best.
One wonders what it would have been like if Senna was still around. Would he have been able to stop Schumacher winning seven world champions (ha ha), or vice versa?
Senna ahead of Schumacher, but not for long if you watch this video on YouTube.com. This was back in the days when proper racing was allowed.
Hakkinen vs Schumacher
I’ll be putting my best photos online this weekend from my Namibian holiday.
This photo is incredible. Just look at the reactions of everyone around the baseball bat. The poor bloke who got hit in the face didn’t see it coming.
So I am back at work after almost three weeks holiday. I have been relaxing in Namibia since the 20th of September. What a Fantastic place? If you ever get the opportunity to visit that part of the world, do so. I highly recommend Windhoek, Swakopmund, the red sand dunes and the Etosha Game Reserve. You cannot go wrong and if you are into (Lions, Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Sprinbok, Kudu, snakes, wild birds, beautiful scenery, camping, dusty roads, and plenty of sand), then you will have a field day in Namibia. Plus the people are very friendly, and the place is clean. Very surprising considering most African countries I have visited are filthy, littered with papers. These guys really take pride in their home.
I took loads of photos and they will be on this site shortly (obviously not everyone one of my 2GB’s of photos will appear in the photo album), but enough to keep those interested in visiting the country hungry for more.
On a lighter note, I couldn’t help but admire this image. You got to wonder why the hell the lady in the middle with the big boobies has such a red face?
And you wonder why the blokes at the back of the hot tub are so ignorant to the action in the front of this photo (they gotta be gay, it’s the only explanation).
Photo is from Binky Boodle
– You can thank me later. This is one brilliant site!
I got this image in an email from my good friend Mr James Barrett. It’s certainly worthy of a good laugh.
BTW: The NHS is our wonderful National Health Service in the UK.
