Get Flocked.

By Mike. Posted in Applications, Featured Site | No Comments »

I stumbled upon a new web browser (as if there aren’t enough of them already). It’s called Flock browser and is based on the Mozilla browser. It quite unique in that it pulls all of your favorite people, places and content together into a convenient view and delivers a more personal experience of the web.

I will give it a go for a couple of days and see how I get on with it. I am not really into all the social websites (Facebook, Flickr, Youtube etc), but it has a Mozilla feel to it, so worth a try out!

I stumbled upon a really cool website called Cartoons Caricatures and as the name implies it’s a site about cartoons drawn by various Singapore artists.

It is a Wordpress blog and their latest cartoons have a F1 theme, which is fitting since they are hosting the first ever F1 night race this weekend. Take a look. The whole site is really cool. A lot of talent for sure.

I had a wee problem with my gallery recently which is embedded in my wordpress website using the WPG2 plugin. It’s quite a huge gallery with over 3500 photos. After a recent upgrade I noticed I was getting blank pages in my gallery whenever one clicked through the albums or clicked on the thumbnail in the sidebar. I’ve tried fixing the problem by adding various lines to my .htacess file in the root of my website, but nothing has helped…. until this morning that is, when I contacted the ‘one to one’ help line at Bluehost.com

I explained the problem and in no time at all the technician had made some changes and my gallery is working like it should be. It’s a lot quicker than it was and it looks really good (if I have to say so myself). I’ve been with Bluehost.com for a couple of years now, and it’s because their service and support is fantastic.

There is this great new application called Mobbler, that allows you to login to LastFM account on your mobile and to stream music. The set up is pretty basic and it worked very well provided there was signal.

I tried it out on the train this morning, and it was not as reliable as I had hoped. Once it loses connection, you have to manually reconnect. (Lets hope this gets changed in newer versions as it is a right pain if your phone is buried in your pocket).

Overall I like where they are going with this application and would highly recommend using it!

Note: you need to have an account on LastFM before trying to use this application. You can sign up here.

If you log into LastFM on the web, you’ll notice they have updated your library, which is very cool.

I stumbled upon Mahalo.com this evening, and what a refreshing search engine it is? It has a very modern Web 2.0 feel about it. It kind of draws you in and I found myself spending almost an hour clicking through the various links etc. It’s a breath of fresh air and so different to Google’s dull looking result page. It’s funny how we take things for granted.

I did a search for Cat Allergy and got a guide, a disclaimer and some fast facts and even the top seven links, articles, and campaigns. Impressive to say the least.

"Cat Allergy" are  the words I searched and here is result page. (why not click the link and see what I mean).

Xobni goes public.

By Mike. Posted in Featured Site, Technology | No Comments »

If you are puzzled by the subject, Xobni is Inbox spelt backwards. It’s a brilliant plug-in for Microsoft Outlook that makes a crap program better. Once installed it adds a toolbar on the side of your Outlook page and the toolbar offers a wealth of information FAST.
You have access to contact details, telephone details, who this person is linked too, links to all attachments in the related emails, previous conversation (similar to Gmail) all in quick and easily accessible toolbar.

I’ve stumbled across a few fun web sites recently.
Oojai (Let your mouse do the shopping!) looks refreshing, although I am sure how well it will do in the already busy market of technology. Their prices look good for Video games, and Mp3 players, and there might be a good bargain or two in the coming weeks (while they are still new). There is a new Search Engine called "Search Me". It is a visual search engine, and it works really well. There is a video demo below.

You should get Stumbleupon. It is a brilliant application that sits in your browser tool bar and whenever you click the button, it brings up a random web site or video, depending on what you have specified in your profile. For example if you are into photography, bicycles, and Macintosh computers, a mix of these web sites will appear at random. They are spam free and you get no pop ups. I came across a really funny video called "Good luck Chuck - Funny sex scenes", which if you click on the link, will take you to the video. (A bit risky for the office, hence no thumbnail but it’s wife proof ;-), but there is nothing in there that you haven’t seen already in the Simpsons or Basic Instinct). So go on and download from the the link. It’s really funny.

I’ve been religiously adding my favorite web sites to my del.icio.us bookmarks, and thought it would look cool to see it in a full page cloud, so here are my links. If you want to add me to your network, then please go ahead.  Actually these are the default colors and they work really well with my theme.

Oh! yes, It’s true. I have a new web site. It’s not 100% complete, but it’s live and ready to receive tons of photos.

By Mike. Posted in Featured Site, Nokia N95, S60 | 19 Comments »

Rotate me By SamirI finally received the Rotate Me application from Samir Oueldi and got to work getting it signed (else it doesn’t work).
Here is a tutorial from GoSymbian (Quite a simple process if you follow instructions.

I like Rotate Me a lot, and can’t wait for the final product. Well done Samir!!!

Note: The answer is “NO, I will not email you a copy of the Rotate Me software“. If you want it, then visit Samir’s website where you can give a donation and he will send you a beta copy…

It also appears that Samir’s default website http://www.bysamir.fr/ is not currently working. I have updated my links above to his new website.
